1. CONFIGURATION OF TIME STAMP PARAMETERS
The FirmaCerta programme must be configured before using the Time Stamp service.
Go to FirmaCerta > Tools > Options > Stamps
- Check that the URL is set to http://timestamp.namirialtsp.com or https://timestamp.namirialtsp.com
- Enter Username and Password and then click OK
- Setting the option “Do not ask timestamp service parameters" data confirmation during the
timestamp process will be not required.
The Check Remaining Time Stamps function verifies time stamps purchased, used and remaining (if the verification cannot be performed, check that the credentials have been entered correctly)
2. HOW TO STAMP A FILE
Having loaded the file to be signed and clicked Sign, the user will be asked to select a destination folder in which to save the signed document.
In this example, a dedicated folder was created in advance for signed and stamped files. Then select Stamped Documents and click Open.
Specify the format to be used to stamp the document.
.TSD (TimeStamp Document): is the standard format containing both the time stamp and the original file that has been stamped, thus making it possible to verify both the accuracy of the time stamp and the content of the original file. The time stamp is associated with the document.
.TSR (TimeStamp Response): is similar to the .TST format with the addition of the Server TimeStamp response code of the certification authority.
The electronic evidence obtained through verification only relates to the accuracy of the time stamp; the original file would be required in order to verify that the latter corresponds to the .tsr file.
.TST (TimeStamp Token): is a file containing the fingerprint, but not the content, of a stamped document or file.
CADES-T or PADES-T: proves that the signature actually existed at a specific date and time. The time stamp is associated with the individual signature and CANNOT be separated.
Attention: if a document has already been signed and you wish to time stamp the file, the software also makes it possible to select CADES-T (for .p7m files) and PADES-T (for .pdf files) formats.
2.1 Specifying the time stamping parameters
Specify the parameters of the time stamp service.
Note:
- if time stamp configuration has been performed, the URL, Username and Password fields will be pre-filled.
- If the “Non richiedere parametri di accesso” [Do not request access parameters] box is ticked, confirmation of the data will not be requested as part of the time stamping process; to change this setting, go to Options.
2.2 Completing the time stamping process
Confirm that you wish to sign the file
Select USB Reader/USB Token
Enter the PIN of the digital signature device and click OK.
Note: The PIN code has been provided in a security envelope.
Once the operation has been processed, click OK to complete the signing process.
3. HOW TO SIGN AND PUT A TIMESTAMP IN A DOCUMENT
After loading the file choose this function to sign and put the timestamp in one singular operation.
Once signed and timestamped the file, the format will be CADES-T (ex. filename.pdf.P7M).
With a CADES-T format (default format) or PADES-T (format available only for PDF document) the timestamp is associated with a singulat signature and is not separable.
After loading the file and choosing the function Sign and Timestamp, the user will be required to select a destination folder to save the file.
In the following example, a specific folder for digitally signed files has been previously created, then select Timestamped Documents and click on Open.
3.1 Selecting signature format
Select CAdES to sign the file in .p7m format.
Select PAdES format to sign the file in .pdf format.
Note: The format to be used to sign the document can only be selected in the case of .pdf extension files. For all other file formats, the .p7m extension will be applied automatically.
If the Don't Ask Again box is ticked, automatic selection will be set; to change this setting, go to Options.
3.2 Selecting reason for signing
This function allows the user to add optional informations as motivation, location, contact informations before completing the signature of the document.
Nota: This function is available only for .pdf documents. The use of this function is at the user’s choice as an Optional Operation.
3.3 Specify time stamping parameters
Specify the parameters of the timestamp service.
Note:
- if time stamp configuration has been performed, the URL, Username and Password fields will be pre-filled.
- If the “Do not ask access parameters anymore” box is ticked, confirmation of the data will not be requested as part of the time stamping process; to change this setting, go to Options Timestamps.
3.4 Completing the signing and timestamping process
Confirm that you wish to sign the file
Selecting USB Reader/USB Token
Enter the PIN of the digital signature device and click OK.
Note: The PIN code has been provided in a security envelope
Once the operation has been processed, click OK to complete the signing process.
